Have you ever used a BMI or Body Mass Index calculator? Were you able to completely understand what your body mass index means in regards to your health or were there questions left unanswered? Take a minute to read this simple guide that we’ve put together before using our BMI calculator to see where you stand.

Take your personal information and put it into the calculator. The number you are given will provide you with a pretty good indication whether you are underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese. A person’s body mass index is considered to be an objective scientific measure and uses a persons height and weight to determine the BMI.

You can use our Body Mass Index calculator to quickly determine your BMI or you can do the calculations yourself. To determine your body mass index, you take your weight in kilograms and divide it by the square of your height, also in meters. The calculation looks like this: BMI=kg/m2.

Keep in mind that the body mass index should only be used as a guide since it cannot be accurate in every circumstance. For example, a person with an extremely muscular physique or a trained athlete will often appear on the BMI scale as being obese.

If you have used the Body Mass Index calculator and have concerns regarding your weight, it is suggested that you visit your family doctor in order to have proper testing done. This calculator is to be used as a guide.

Once you have determined what your BMI is you will need to know what that means in terms of your health. If your Body Mass Index does not fall into what is considered to be a healthy range, it will be necessary to take the recommended steps. If you need help with getting your body mass index into a healthy range, you can contact your health care provider for assistance.

Keeping your Body Mass Index within a healthy range will help you maintain optimal health. Use the Body Mass Index calculator as a tool to keep an eye on your health.

Body Mass Index Calculator

Height Inches

Weight Pounds

Your BMI

If your BMI is less than 18.5
A BMI of less than 18.5 is considered to be a lean BMI. This means you have very low body fat and this may be desirable in some instances. For example, an athlete may have a very low BMI, but it may also mean that your weight is far too low. A low body weight can lower a persons immunity to many diseases. It is a good idea to increase your muscle mass with an exercise program and healthy diet if your body weight and BMI are both low.

If your BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9
A Body Mass Index that falls between 18.5 and 24.9 indicates a healthy amount of body fat. A BMI that falls within this range is usually associated with longevity and has a smaller chance of suffering from a serious illness. A number of studies have proven that this BMI level is the one that people find to be most aesthetically pleasing.

If your BMI is between 25 and 29.9
A person with a BMI that is between 25 and 29.9 would normally be considered overweight. If your Body Mass Index falls within this range, you should be looking for ways to effectively lower your weight. To lower your weight, start eating a healthy diet and take part in an exercise routine.

If your BMI is between 30 and 39
A person with a Body Mass Index between 30 and 39 is considered to be in the obesity range. It is critical to adopt some aggressive lifestyle changes. It is essential to start eating a healthy diet and participate in regular exercise. A woman with a waist that is greater than 35 inches, or a man with a waist larger than 40 inches are at a greater risk for disease.

If your BMI is 40 or more
A person with a Body Mass Index of 40 or more is considered to be extremely obese. Extreme obesity is an unhealthy condition and should be addressed immediately. This amount of excess body fat puts a person into a greater risk of some forms of cancer, gall bladder disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. Now is the time to start eating a healthy diet and start getting some exercise.
